Community spirit shone at the Morningside Country Club's first Carnival Day, attracting families and sports enthusiasts alike.
Morningside Country Club opened its doors to the public with a vibrant Carnival Day, marking a memorable first for the historic club.
The event, on May 1, aimed to showcase the club’s diverse sports facilities and foster community engagement, inviting local families and individuals to experience the club’s welcoming atmosphere.
The day featured a range of activities across multiple sports, including hockey skill tests, fun variations of bowls for beginners, and introductory sessions on the club’s five pristine paddle courts.

Visitors also enjoyed engaging in tennis games, with the opportunity to test their serves and participate in raffles with attractive prizes. Complementing the sporting festivities was a lively market, with 25 stalls selling various items, along with food and drinks served at the club’s bar and restaurant, creating a festive environment for all attendees.
The club’s president, Rob Sellers, shared his enthusiasm about the event. “The inspiration behind Carnival Day was to bring people back to that childhood joy – bright colours, games, and community fun.
“It’s about showing that our club is a gem in the neighbourhood, where everyone, whether they play sports or not, can come and enjoy a friendly, welcoming environment.”

The club’s manager, Steve Smit, commented on the event’s success and highlighted some future plans. “Carnival Day exceeded our expectations with a great turnout and enthusiasm. It’s the first of what we hope will be many annual events. We’re already planning for spring, with other upcoming activities like Mother’s Day buffets, and monthly quiz nights to keep the community engaged.

“We’re proud to offer a welcoming space where people can enjoy sport, good food, and great company. Everyone is invited, no membership required, to come and be part of the Morningside family.”
