Progress being made on pipe repairs at Illovo reservoir
JW reports successful repair efforts at Illovo reservoir, with system tests showing no leaks. Water restoration to high-lying areas is underway.
Johannesburg Water (JW) would like to provide an update regarding ongoing water supply restoration efforts at the Sandton area, specifically at the Illovo reservoir and tower on Pretoria Avenue. The utility’s team has confirmed that the recent pipe repairs are holding well, with no visible leaks on the pipeline. The outlet remains open at 50%, and last night’s closure of the Illovo reservoir was instrumental in building up storage capacity, supporting the ongoing recovery process.

Technicians are now in the process of switching on the pumps at Illovo tower to increase pressure within the system and facilitate the restoration of water supply to high-lying areas. While these efforts are underway, alternative water supply arrangements remain in effect to support residents affected by the repairs.

The organisation emphasises that safety remains a priority; residents, motorists, and pedestrians are urged to use alternative routes and avoid entering, or frequenting, the repair site for their own safety.
JW continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide further updates as the restoration process progresses. The organisation remains committed to restoring full water supply as quickly and safely as possible, ensuring the needs of the community are met.
