From Facebook foodie to cookbook author

Local food lover, Kim Bagley, has turned her online following into a family legacy.

It all began with a few humble food photos, posted to Facebook. Today, Kim Bagley is the proud author of a highly anticipated cookbook, filled with comforting, nostalgic meals that have made her a household name on TikTok and beyond.

Her book: Cooking with Kim Bagley: A South African Fusion of Flavours, is a one-stop cooking staple for South Africans.
Bagley said: “The comment sections were full of love. People kept saying: ‘We need a book’. Eventually, the right people saw this and encouraged me to make it happen.”

She added that her journey wasn’t just digital; it was deeply personal.

Bagley credits the late Fatima Sydow for giving her the push she needed. “She saw my food and sent me the kindest voice note. Later, we had an hour-long call where she said I must write a book, as my recipes are too good not to share. That changed everything.”

Bagley elaborated that, from that moment, she committed to sharing her family’s traditions. Her online community not only cheer her on; they helped shape the book itself. “The feedback was clear. Some recipes were just beloved, so, I made sure to include them. Others, I saved just for the book, as a thank-you to the people who supported me.”

She pointed out that the cookbook is divided into three chapters: Comfort, spice, and all things nice, each telling a part of her culinary story. “Koeksisters are especially close to my heart. They remind me of Sundays back in Cape Town as a child, and they were the first recipe Aunty Fatima told me to film for a tutorial.”

Bagley said her family has been with her every step of the way. “My husband is my biggest cheerleader. My daughters rated every dish like judges on MasterChef, and my mom taught me what food made with love means.”
