Johannesburg Water closes Winnie Mandela Drive south due to sinkhole repairs

Locals in Hurlingham are urged to take note of the work that JW is doing on Winnie Mandela Drive southbound at the Argyle Avenue intersection.

Johannesburg Water (JW) has announced the temporary closure of Winnie Mandela Drive southbound, at the Argyle Avenue intersection in Hurlingham, to allow for urgent repair work.

The closure, which began on August 18, comes after a sinkhole was identified at the site.

JW, working with Johannesburg Roads Agency, is carrying out critical excavation and pipeline repairs beneath the roadway.

To ensure the safety of motorists and repair teams, lanes on Winnie Mandela Drive south will remain closed until the work is complete.

Water supply in parts of the area has also been isolated to facilitate safe repair operations.

JW said its teams are working to restore the water supply and reopen the road as soon as possible.

Residents and motorists are urged to use alternative routes and exercise patience during this disruption.
