Louisa Holst’s new cookbook proves air fryers can do more than chips
The cookbook comes packed with tips on how to avoid common air-fryer mistakes and how to adapt traditional South African favourites, like chakalaka and boerewors, for this quicker, easier method.
Air fryers have become the must-have gadget in South African kitchens, but bestselling author Louisa Holst believes we are only scratching the surface of what they can do.
With her brand-new 30-Minute South African Air-Fryer Cookbook, she shows just how versatile and proudly local air fryer cooking can be.
Holst said the book was inspired by her love of South African flavours.
“We live in an amazing country that has its own delicious flavours, exciting ingredients and unique cuisine, so why not celebrate it? I wanted to create recipes especially for South Africans.”

Unlike many international air-fryer cookbooks, this one is built around local tastes and affordable ingredients.
“Other books often make use of ingredients that are expensive or hard to find. My recipes are 100% local and lekker.”
Expect more than just chicken and chips.
The book includes dishes like sticky chilli lamb chops, chicken bobotie, glazed snoek, and even desserts like apple and cinnamon vetkoek bake.
And every recipe is designed to take 30 minutes or less.
“Time is the one thing none of us seem to have enough of, so I focus on quick, tasty dishes that families will enjoy.”
For anyone new to air frying, Holst recommends starting simple.
“Try the monkey gland crunch burger. Within minutes, you will be tucking into a scrumptious homemade burger that’s so much better than a takeaway.”
