Celebrating National Down Syndrome Awareness Day at Morningside Country Club

Bowls brought more than competition; it brought confidence, laughter, and connection for young players with Down syndrome at Morningside Country Club.

Laughter and applause filled the Morningside Country Club on October 19 as families and volunteers gathered to celebrate National Down Syndrome Awareness Day.

The event, hosted by the Down Syndrome Association Gauteng and the Johannesburg Bowls Academy, gave children and young adults with Down syndrome a chance to enjoy the game of bowls in an inclusive settings.

Organisers said the aim was to promote awareness and create opportunities for social connection through sport. The initiative also supports Bowls South Africa’s goal to include players with intellectual disability and hearing-impairments in its programmes.
