Golf day and calendar release helps Sandton SPCA raise funds to protect abandoned animals

Golf clubs were swung with purpose at Houghton Golf Estate on October 1, as the Sandton SPCA hosted its annual golf day, a key fundraising event to support animals in desperate need of care.

Set on one of Johannesburg’s most exclusive courses, the event was not only about scoring under par; it was about ensuring the SPCA can continue its lifesaving work: Rescuing neglected animals, providing medical care, and offering them a safe place to heal.

Sandton SPCA chairperson Nick Smith said: “This day is about raising funds to help the most vulnerable among us… The animals. Every cent raised goes directly into food, vet care, shelter, and survival. Events like this help keep our gates open and our animals safe.”

Golfers, sponsors, and animal lovers came together in support of the cause, participating in a full day of sport, giving, and connection.

On-course entertainment and interactive sponsor holes added fun and energy to the experience, while the evening prize giving, and live auction, brought in additional donations.

High-value items, including luxury holidays, exclusive art, and lifestyle packages, were auctioned off, with all proceeds going to animal care and rescue services.

A highlight of the day was the official release of the Sandton SPCA 2026 calendar, an annual fundraising initiative that also raises awareness about animal welfare.

“Buying or selling our calendars is one of the easiest ways to help,” concluded Smith. “We’re calling on businesses to order in bulk. Every calendar funds food, treatment, and shelter for animals in our care.”
