Sandton author tackles bullying with new book
With her new book: Stop Bullying Me!, Louise Elsa provides practical guidance and real-life stories to help teens recognise, respond to, and prevent bullying, both at school and online.
Bullying remains a pervasive challenge in schools and online, often leaving lasting emotional scars.
Louise Elsa, a local author, has taken a hands-on approach to addressing this issue with her new book, Stop Bullying Me!
Aimed at readers aged 11 to 18, the book blends real-life stories, reflections, and actionable strategies to help young people recognise, respond to, and ultimately prevent bullying.

“Bullying deeply affects the target, not just in the moment, but in how they see themselves long afterward,” Elsa explains. “With this book, I wanted to create something that would speak directly to tweens and teens, helping them understand that being bullied is not their fault, and they can take back their power.”
Drawing on her own experiences with bullying and working closely with children, Elsa became aware of how isolation and uncertainty often compound the problem. “Working with children, I began to see how widespread and damaging bullying can be, especially on social media. It is so evident that children and teens feel unsure where to turn or how to respond.”
The book’s content is designed to resonate with its audience. Rather than a lecture, Elsa addresses readers directly, exploring the many forms of bullying, including emotional, verbal, social, and digital.
She emphasises that subtle actions, such as exclusion, teasing, or online manipulation, can be just as damaging as overt aggression. A dedicated chapter on cyberbullying provides practical advice for dealing with online harassment, as well as tips for fostering positive digital citizenship.

Elsa also highlights the importance of bystanders in stopping bullying. “Witnessing bullying can feel uncomfortable or scary, but even small actions: Speaking up safely, supporting the target, or reporting to trustworthy adults, can make a big difference. Standing by or remaining silent allows bullying to continue.
“Stop Bullying Me! is more than just a title; it’s a declaration of self-worth and courage. It’s the moment a bully’s target says: ‘Enough. I deserve respect. I deserve to feel safe’. Those three words capture what so many people who’ve been bullied wish they could say out loud, clearly, confidently, and without fear.”
In writing the book, Elsa consulted teachers, school counsellors, and parents, as well as drawing from counselling resources. She emphasises empowerment over passivity, deliberately using the term ‘target’ rather than ‘victim’, to reinforce the idea that children and teens can take action against bullying.
When asked what advice she would give to young people experiencing bullying today, Elsa’s message is simple and powerful. “Don’t believe the lies the bully tries to tell you about who you are. You are not what they say you are. You are stronger, braver, and more valuable than they want you to believe. Speak up, reach out for help. You are not alone.”
