SA20 schools tour brings electric energy to Montrose Primary

Montrose Primary erupted in sound and colour as the SA20 Schools Tour brought music, stars, and cricket fever to Sandton.

Montrose Primary turned into a noisy, excited crowd on November 24 as the national SA20 Schools Tour stopped in Sandton, delivering a mix of music, sport, and star power that had learners on their feet long before the formal programme began.

The visit is part of a four-city tour aimed at getting young people interested in sport, though it plays out differently at each school.

At Montrose, the atmosphere leaned more towards a mini-festival than a development lecture, and the learners responded to that.

Learners screamed, danced, and rushed forward as hip-hop artist YoungstaCPT took the stage to debut his version of the new SA20 anthem, Put Your Hands Up.

The energy was loud, messy, and genuine, which is often a more reliable indicator of impact than any marketing line.

Joburg Super Kings’ Steven Stolk and Donovan Ferreira joined the tour to speak to the children.

They kept their messages short and direct, focusing on discipline, resilience, and the idea that sport can give young people a sense of belonging.

Whether that inspiration lasts beyond the morning depends on the environment the learners return to after the music fades, but Stolk’s presence alone drew a level of excitement that suggests the message landed for at least some of them.

The tour stops in several cities, but today’s turnout showed that the Sandton leg carried its own flavour. Learners weren’t passive spectators.

They yelled, danced, argued playfully over who would get closer to the players, and tried, loudly, to copy YoungstaCPT’s chorus.
