New year, new strides at Ernest Ullmann parkrun

Runners kicked off the second January run with renewed energy as the Ernest Ullmann parkrun brought the Morningside community together for its weekly 5km run.

The spirit of fresh beginnings was alive and well at Ernest Ullmann Park on January 10, as runners of all ages and fitness levels gathered for the weekly parkrun in Morningside.

With the new year underway, the event drew both familiar faces and first-time participants, rediscovering a love for running or starting their fitness journeys in a welcoming, pressure-free environment.

Walkers, joggers, and seasoned runners shared the same route, reinforcing parkrun’s focus on inclusivity, rather than competition.

Event director Bernadette Phillips said the consistent turnout reflects how parkrun has become more than just a run for the local community.

“Parkrun is about showing up, whether you are chasing a personal best or simply getting some fresh air. Seeing people come together every Saturday morning, supporting one another and enjoying the park, is what makes this event so special.”

Beyond fitness, the weekly run has become a social anchor, offering participants a chance to connect, reset mentally, and start their weekends on a positive note.

Community members are encouraged to lace up and take part. “Join the fun with us every Saturday morning at 08:00 at Ernest Ullmann Park.”
