Fires lit, friendships form at Bryanston Primary’s Family Braai Day
Parents, learners, and teachers swapped desks for braai stands and games at Bryanston Primary’s first Family Braai Day, a colourful, fun-filled celebration of community spirit.
Bryanston Primary School kicked off 2026 with a flavour-packed celebration, hosting its very first Family Braai Day on January 24.
The event offered more than just grilled delights; it was a day of connection, colour, and community.
The morning began with parents stepping into classrooms for a structured information session, meeting teachers and learning more about academics, school rules, and uniforms. But once the formalities were over, the school field transformed into a lively hub of fun and festivity.

Each grade brought its own themed corner to life, with parents and learners sporting coordinated colours, creating a rainbow of school pride.

Families arrived prepared to fire up the braai, sharing snacks, drinks, and plenty of laughter.
The school’s events organiser, Yolande van der Merwe, said, “This was about creating a space where families could feel part of the school community. It was a chance for parents to meet teachers and each other in a relaxed, joyful setting.”

Children had a blast, from board games and soccer matches to activities on the multi-surface courts, while parents mingled and forged new friendships.
The combination of sizzling food, playful energy, and vibrant colours made for a truly unforgettable atmosphere.
Van der Merwe said the response exceeded all expectations, with the plans to make it an annual event in hand.
“The parents and the kids are enjoying it tremendously. It’s definitely something that works, and we’re already looking at making it an annual event.”
