UPDATE: Planned picket at the US Consulate in Sandton
Law enforcement and private security are monitoring a demonstration outside the US Consulate on Sandton Drive, with motorists urged to proceed with caution.
A protest has been reported outside the United States Consulate on Sandton Drive on February 6.
According to the Sandton Community Policing Forum (CPF), law enforcement officials, and private security are monitoring the situation.

The demonstrations have resulted in minor traffic disruptions in the area and motorists have been advised to exercise caution when travelling along Sandton Drive.
We have contacted Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) spokesperson Xolani Fihla for comment. However, Fihla is currently on leave and indicated he had not yet received information about the protest.
He said he would follow up and provide feedback once available.

At this stage, no further details about the protest or possible road closures have been confirmed.

UPDATE:
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has confirmed that the demonstration taking place outside the US Consulate is a planned picket.
JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said one lane has been closed to accommodate the protesters, while traffic continues to flow.
JMPD officers, together with private security, are on site and monitoring the situation. He said everything is in order and under control.
According to Palestine Solidarity Alliance Youth League’s Instagram page, the protest forms part of an International Day of Solidarity with Venezuela and is directed against what organisers describe as US imperialism and aggression.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution in the area.
