Learners turn clothing donations into a powerful symbol of giving
What started as a clothing drive in Bryanston became a lesson in empathy, community, and meaningful impact.
More than 230 bags of clothing were collected on March 20 at Michael Mount Waldorf School, as learners, teachers, and the broader school community came together for a cause close to their hearts.
In partnership with the non-profit organisation, Clothes to Good, the initiative encouraged learners to donate clothing and other items, turning everyday acts of giving into something far more meaningful.

The highlight of the day saw learners gather on the school field to arrange the donated items into the shape of a heart. The striking visual served as a symbol of generosity, unity, and the collective impact of small contributions.
The initiative was largely driven by Grade 10 learners, who played an active role in organising and supporting the drive. For many of them, it was not just about donating clothes, it was about understanding the deeper impact of giving back and supporting communities in need.
Teachers at the school also lent their support, helping to guide the project while encouraging a culture of empathy and social responsibility among learners.

Through its partnership with Clothes to Good, the school ensured that the donations would go beyond immediate relief. The organisation is known for using clothing and recyclable items to support income-generating opportunities for persons with disabilities, extending the life cycle of donated goods while uplifting communities.
The initiative not only highlighted the power of collective action; it also reinforced the importance of teaching young people the value of compassion, sustainability, and active citizenship.
