Million Comforts Campaign activation at Winifred Mandela Precinct marks 11 years of impact

From sanitary pad donations to career guidance and community upliftment, the Dis-Chem Foundation is evolving its Million Comforts Campaign into a broader, more inclusive movement, now bringing boys into the conversation.

The Dis-Chem Foundation is taking its Million Comforts Campaign to the next level, shifting from a singular focus on sanitary pad donations to a more holistic approach aimed at supporting young people in schools across South Africa, while maintaining its core mission of keeping girls in school.

Now in its 11th year, the campaign continues to address period poverty, even as it expands to include wider social support initiatives.

Speaking during a lively in-store activation at Dis-Chem Nicolway in the Winifred Mandela Precinct on May 2, Luvokazi Mpondzo explained that the initiative is entering a new phase, one that prioritises inclusion and long-term impact.

“We have been running Million Comforts for some time now, but this is a new chapter. The main focus now is inclusion, bringing boys into the conversation as well. It goes beyond donating pads. We are looking at career guidance, financial guidance, and supporting schools in a more comprehensive way,” she said.

She added that the activation forms part of a broader campaign drive designed to encourage both donations and community participation. Shoppers are invited to become Better Rewards members and purchase participating sanitary pad packs to gain access to games, competitions, and celebrity interactions.

“It’s about driving both awareness and donations. When you buy a pack, you unlock access to activities. The more you buy, the more chances you have to participate in the games and win prizes,” Mpondzo said.

The event features a full day of entertainment, competitions, and appearances from well-known personalities, including Mia Le Roux, Miss South Africa 2024 and Proudly Payot brand ambassador. Attendees also have the chance to win prizes ranging from sponsored getaways to branded hampers, while engaging with various partner organisations supporting the initiative.

Mpondzo highlighted the importance of collaboration in expanding the campaign’s reach.

“We have brought in new partners to strengthen what we are doing. It’s about creating a support system that goes beyond one-day donations and actually impacts lives,” she said.

Running until the evening, the activation creates a vibrant, community-driven atmosphere where giving back is tied directly to engagement and experience. With its expanded vision, the Million Comforts Campaign is positioning itself not just as a charitable drive but as a platform for education, empowerment, and inclusive development, with locals invited to come and take part.

As Mpondzo put it, the goal is simple but ambitious. “We want to support learners in every way possible, not just today, but in the long run.”
