Bryanston Primary rugby coach Tiaan Rheeder said the fixtures marked an important step in a new chapter for the school’s rugby programme. “This is the first year that we’re actually competing in this league, coming up from the development league that we played. Today’s result is a testament to how hard the boys have been working, and I’m very proud of the boys, and we’re looking forward to the rest of our season.”

Bryanston Primary first team captain Mason Haas acknowledged the challenge posed by their opponents, despite the final score line. “Northcliff Primary gave us a really tough game. There are a few boys in the Northcliff team who were tough to get past, but our boys played through that. We did our best, got through, scored, and won. I’m proud of today’s win with the boys. We played beautiful rugby.”

Despite suffering defeats in both age groups, Northcliff Primary’s coaches remain positive and focused on areas for growth and development. Northcliff Primary teacher and coach Alton Ndlovu reflected on the U11 team’s performance and identified defensive structure as an area needing improvement. “Unfortunately, we lost, but the overall play was perfect. My main concern with the U11s is that we were bunching too much on defence. Otherwise, the actual defence and attack were perfect from the guys.”

Northcliff Primary U13 coach Cedric Ngwenya said the experience serves as an important learning opportunity for his players. “Our game did not go as expected, but it is what it is. I think what we can work on is just how to make the kids more positive in their game play, how we can improve them as individuals to become better people, and also just to enjoy the sport more.
“We have to work on our defence and scrums. Other than that, they did well and fought well, even though the score line didn’t show it. I’m happy, and I’m proud of how they played.”
