Gauteng water police recover body of 50-year-old in Bryanston

Johannesburg Water Policing and Diving Services recovered the body of a 50-year-old man from a riverbank in Riverpark and are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward as police investigate.

Divers from the Johannesburg Water Policing and Diving Services recovered the body of a 50-year-old man from a riverbank in Bryanston on June 16.

According to the Johannesburg Flying Squad spokesperson Raymond Sambo, emergency teams were dispatched to Riverpark in Bryanston at around 14:00 following reports of a body in the river.

“On arrival at the scene, the body of a 50-year-old man was recovered from an embankment in the river. The body was retrieved and handed over to Sandton SAPS members at the scene, and an inquest docket was opened for further investigation.”

Sambo appealed to members of the community who may have witnessed the incident or have more information to contact Sandton Police Station or Crime Stop at 08600 10111.

He added that precautionary measures should be taken to avert needless loss of life.

“Individuals venturing into dams, rivers or water for any activity are advised to do so only with a life jacket.

“Parents of young children near open water should educate them about the associated dangers and ensure constant supervision.”
