Written by British playwright Nick Payne, the two-hander explores a deceptively simple question: What if one small decision changed everything?

Through a blend of romance, science, and philosophical reflection, Constellations follows the relationship between a quantum physicist and a beekeeper who meet at a barbeque. Their connection unfolds across multiple possible realities, presenting different outcomes shaped by subtle choices and moments.

The production opens with a memorable line: “One drink, and if you never want to see me again, you never have to see me again.”

From there, audiences were drawn into a shifting world where the pair falls in love, drifts apart, reconnects, and confronts life’s uncertainties in countless variations.

At its heart, Constellations examines themes of connection, fate, grief, and hope, while introducing concepts of quantum theory in an accessible and emotionally resonant way.

The production is directed by renowned choreographer and theatre-maker Jay Pather, whose previous works include The Firebird, Bridling, Hold Still, and productions with Siwela Sonke Dance Theatre. On stage, Mark Elderkin and Mwenya Kabwe carried the performance with an intimate and emotionally layered portrayal that relies entirely on dialogue, chemistry, and subtle shifts between realities.
