Lions Cricket Awards recognises excellence at Montrose Primary School

Montrose Primary School celebrated a major cricket milestone after being named McDonald’s School of Excellence of the Season.

Montrose Primary School is celebrating after being named McDonald’s School of Excellence of the Season, Boys Primary School at the Lions Youth Cricket Awards.

The award recognises the school’s continued contribution to the development and promotion of cricket among young players in the area.

According to Montrose Primary School marketing manager Mokhosi Makara, the recognition reflects years of commitment from learners, coaches, teachers, and families who have supported the programme.

“This award is a great honour for all the work that has been done throughout the year. We have the most players in the area and several teams across the grades. Over the years, many of our players have progressed to regional cricket.”

He added that cricket at the school starts from the lower grades, and continues through to Grade 7, creating opportunities for learners to develop both their sporting ability and discipline.

“We also have girls who are playing regional cricket. This recognition reflects the continued effort Montrose Primary School puts into promoting cricket in our community.”

One of the school’s cricket players, Advait Randhawa, said receiving the award made him proud to be part of the team.
