Better Bryanston appeals for community support to save Bryanston from despair
With maintenance costs reaching R5 000 every Friday, Better Bryanston is urging the community to invest in the suburb's future through donations that will sustain its weekly clean-up operations.
Leonore Kruger, responsible for fundraising at Better Bryanston, is appealing for support from local residents and businesses to help keep their clean-up initiative operational.
Kruger made this appeal during their weekly clean-up at the corner of Sloane Street and Winnie Mandela Drive on July 24. According to Kruger, the non-profit organisation has been working every Friday since May 2025, relying on donations from residents and businesses to fund its operations. “It costs us R5 000 every Friday to clean up the streets of Bryanston.

“In wintertime, there’s not that much work to be done, but summer is coming and the grass will be growing with all the rain. This is a sincere appeal to our community, as well as to our businesses, to please support us.”
Kruger added that donations are important to ensuring the organisation can continue paying staff, providing employment opportunities and maintaining public spaces throughout the suburb. “Without your support we can’t pay salaries, we can’t feed our team, and Bryanston will just slip down the road of no return.

“This is not about Better Bryanston alone. It’s about a community; it’s about a suburb that we would like to prevent going further into decline. If Bryanston goes into decline it will affect everybody. It will affect the safety; it will affect the businesses, and your business will also be affected.
“Please, kindly donate, so that we can all create a better Bryanston. We request donations, big or small, every single cent will help keep our suburb clean while putting bread in the table of those who assist us in maintaining the area.
