Grade 4 Redhill School learner Mila Blandin de Chalain is celebrating a memorable achievement after winning the 40cm jumping event at the Sanesa Qualifier 4, held on June 20 and 21.

The young equestrian admitted that the victory came as a surprise. “I was proud of myself. I didn’t expect to come first.” Mila has been riding for three years, inspired by a family friend who owns a stable. “I have been riding since I was seven years old. Our family friend has a stable, and she inspired me to do horse riding because she rides,” she said. One of the biggest challenges leading up to the competition was adjusting to a new pony while practising higher jumps. “Practising jumping higher on a new pony for the competition was the most challenging part.” Her pony, Lady, played an important role in her success.

“Lady helped me by keeping a good speed throughout the course because she loves going fast, and I had to go fast in that round.” Beyond winning, Mila said she enjoyed having her loved ones there to support her. “I enjoyed riding my pony, and my parents and family were cheering for me.” The competition also gave her valuable lessons that she hopes to apply in future events.

“I need to learn to ride faster on different ponies for future Sanesa competitions.” Mila credits her mother, father, brother, and stepfather for encouraging her throughout her equestrian journey.
Looking ahead to the next Sanesa qualifier, her focus is on doing her best rather than simply chasing another victory. “I want to be proud of myself for trying, even if I don’t come first and know that I tried my best.”
