Resident stands up to be counted

With regards to the article, City Parks Off, Sandton Chronicle week ending 8 May, I am speechless when it comes to the topic of the parks, the pavements, the weeds, the mess and City Parks.

What could be beautiful is a mess. I have been arguing with City Parks for months to not just cut the grass outside my townhouse in Summit Place, but to also cut back the growth because the pavement is getting narrower and narrower as the grass takes over and the weeds push through.

I am also fighting with the Johannesburg Roads Agency to PLEASE replace the bricks which were dug up at least 18 months ago and have since been left lying at the side of the pavement doing nothing; and of course what was the pavement is now just a load of dust.

I am asking for anyone who lives in Summit Road, or who wants to see Morningside looking a lot better, to please join forces with me; let’s get a bricklayer in the community (we have the bricks) and some cement, and lay the bricks back on the pavement.

If I had the correct garden tools, I would cut the grass where it is growing onto the pavement. I had actually started but with the wrong equipment it took me hours to do one tiny bit.

In another country, there would be pansies growing and a few benches and the grass would be neat and tidy. So why not in South Africa? If City Parks can’t be bothered, I am happy to work on this, but I cannot do it on my own…
