Kaizer Chiefs coach, Steve Komphela finally throws in the towel
JOBURG - Steve Komphela finally gets the signal from Mama and throws in the towel at the helm of Amakhosi.
Embattled Kaizer Chiefs coach and former club player, Steve Komphela has finally read the writing on the wall and done the honourable thing and resigned as head coach of the Soweto Glamour Boys.
This comes hot on the heels of embarrassing losses to Chippa United in the Absa Premiership by a 3–0 scoreline and in the Nedbank Cup semi-final to Free State Stars by 2–0.

Ugly scenes were the order of the day in both games, with fans pelting Chiefs players and the technical team with missiles at full-time.
After the United loss, Komphela tried to put on a brave face and vowed to soldier on despite calls for his head. He was possibly hoping to save face by taking his team through to the Nedbank Cup final but it was not to be.
Sport24.co.za reported that Komphela’s resignation was confirmed by Chiefs general manager Bobby Motaung. “Komphela was no longer safe, players were no longer [safe], and the fans too were no longer safe,” Motaung was quoted as saying. “The coach is stepping down with immediate effect.”
Calls for Komphela to quit at the helm of one of the country’s top football clubs are not new. Since joining the club in 2015, Komphela has failed to take the club back to its glory day that fans were used to, and calls for his dismissal have been frequent.
Meanwhile, the Premier Soccer League has strongly condemned the acts of hooliganism and violence that took place at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on 21 April in the Nedbank semi-final between Kaizer Chiefs and Free State Stars.

“Hooliganism and thuggery of this nature have no place in football and acts of violence perpetrated by individuals as witnessed last night cannot be tolerated,” the league said in a statement.
The league said it would work closely with law enforcement to ensure that those responsible for the hooliganism were brought to book.
