Discovery schools soccer programme marks 15 years

Discovery is nurturing young talent and building healthier communities through their school's soccer programme.

This year marks a proud milestone for the Discovery schools soccer programme, which celebrates 15 years of empowering South African youth through sport.

The highly anticipated Discovery Girls Festival took place on June 14 at Crawford Sandton.

This event spotlighted the top young female soccer talent from over 60 schools, giving a thrilling display of skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

Launched in 2009, the initiative has grown into one of the country’s most inspiring school sports development platforms, using soccer to promote health, wellness, and opportunity among learners.

According to Phumelele Kubeka, Discovery marketing manager, it caters to both primary and high school pupils across Johannesburg, hosting a range of tournaments for boys and girls that go far beyond the pitch. “For many participants, it is a chance to compete, stay active, and develop skills that prepare them for life’s bigger challenges.”
