DP World Lions Deaf Cricket marks 50 years of breaking barriers
As the team looks to the next 50 years, they say cricket is for everyone, and deaf cricketers are not just participating; they are making history.
The DP World Wanderers Stadium Long Room came alive on September 6, as the DP World Lions Deaf Cricket team celebrated its 50th anniversary in style
Since its founding in 1975, the team has stood as a symbol of inclusion in South African sport, showing that cricket’s spirit has no boundaries, not even those of sound.

Players’ past and present were honoured, alongside the wider deaf community, for their contributions to a remarkable journey.
Colin Venter, representing DP World Lions Deaf Cricket, described the event as a tribute to both the generations of deaf cricketers who have gone before and the current players who continue to elevate the game.
The celebration featured acknowledgments of key stakeholders, recognition of players’ achievements, and a presentation on the history of Deaf Cricket in Johannesburg and beyond.
