MEYERTON – Police recently met with the Henley-on-Klip community at the Bowling Club to discuss local safety.
Led by Station Commander Colonel Senzangakhona Christopher Mohale, the engagement focused on crime prevention, home security, and community partnerships.
During the meeting, Social Crime Prevention officers spoke about domestic violence and femicide. They highlighted the Victim Friendly Room, where Agape Lerato Community Services offers counselling and support to families, individuals, schools, and churches.
Sector 2 manager Sergeant JH Wiese discussed the factors contributing to crime and urged residents to remain vigilant. He advised people not to let strangers into their homes, to check that security alarms are working properly, and to improve property security.
Police spokesperson Constable Nompumelelo Zazini raised concerns about residents hiring undocumented foreign nationals.
“We urge our communities to do a full background check of any person employed on the premises and to have their documents with them at all times.”
Ward 15 resident Jane Erasmus emphasised that all residents want to live in a crime-free zone. She said that residents play an important role in the fight against crime and called for close co-operation between the community and the police.
Mohale praised the partnership between the Community Police Forum and private security companies. He confirmed that the police will continue operations to reduce crime, stressed the importance of whistle-blowers reporting wrongdoing, and urged everyone to increase vigilance to safeguard their properties and infrastructure.
