SEDIBENG.- The Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) has announced that it, in partnership with the South African Local Government Association (SALGA), it is piloting a groundbreaking digital cemetery management system.

The system went live on Monday, September 14.

Speaking about the system, the ELM said that the pilot project forms part of a national initiative to modernise cemetery administration through a secure, cloud-based digital platform.

“The system will simplify and improve cemetery services.”

The new system, the ELM said, will simplify and improve cemetery services by enabling funeral undertakers and burial societies to submit burial applications online, upload supporting documents, track applications in real time and receive electronic updates throughout the process.

ELM spokesperson, Makhosonke Sangweni said that to access these services, residents must visit www.emfuleni.gov.za , and click on Emfuleni Online and access the Cemetery Management System.

Municipal Cemetery Offices will remain open for public physical consultations during this transition.

“A dedicated FREE mobile application, the ‘Emfuleni Citizen App’, is available on both Android and Apple devices, providing easy, secure and convenient access to these services from anywhere. Municipal Cemetery Offices will remain open for public physical consultations during this transition.”

Sangweni added that this pioneering initiative demonstrates ELM’s commitment to embracing digital innovation and delivering efficient, transparent and citizen-centred municipal services.

“The Municipality will work closely with SALGA throughout the pilot phase to ensure that the solution meets the needs of communities and stakeholders.”
