SASOLBURG. – In a recent municipal council meeting held on March 27, the Metsimaholo Local Municipality announced the appointment of Fusi Motloung as Municipal Manager and Fikile Mareka as Chief Financial Officer.

According to a statement, the two appointments are effective from the 1st of April 2024. The duo’s appointments come after extensive deliberation and careful consideration of candidates’ qualifications and experience.

Municipal spokesperson Dr. Gino Alberts said both Motloung and Mareka bring a wealth of expertise to their respective roles, having garnered years of experience within the municipal environment.

“Prior to his appointment as Municipal Manager, Mr. Motloung served in various capacities within different municipalities, demonstrating his proficiency in governance and corporate affairs. With over twenty years of experience, including stints as Director of Corporate Services and Manager of Supply Chain Management, Mr. Motloung’s academic background in Human Resource and Business Administration, with a focus on the Public Sector, further bolsters his suitability for the position,” he said.

Alberts further added that, similarly, Mareka boasts an impressive resume, having accumulated over sixteen years of experience in Local Government, particularly in Municipal Finance, coupled with over five years in the private sector specialising in financial accounting.

“Her tenure as acting CFO at Nketoana Municipality and subsequent appointment as CFO at Masilonyana Local Municipality underscore her capability to navigate the intricacies of financial management within municipal settings. Ms. Mareka’s ongoing pursuit of a master’s degree further reflects her commitment to professional development and excellence,” he said.

Executive Mayor Jack Malindi expressed optimism regarding the appointments, stating: “We are hopeful that the Municipal Manager and the Chief Financial Officer will exercise their duties with the utmost care and diligence. The positions come with great responsibility, and one such responsibility is to always act in the best interest of this institution and within the confines of the law.
