On Friday morning at 05h56 Netcare 911 paramedics received a call for a side impact collision along Heidelberg Street in City Deep Gauteng. Reports from the scene indicate that a taxi collided into the side of a 1400 bakkie. Exact detail as to what the cause of the crash is unknown, however this will form part of the South African Police investigation.
Netcare 911 paramedics, the fire department, and the Netcare rescue officer arrived at the scene and found the roadway littered with accident debris and the twisted frames of the vehicles, some of the injured were still trapped in the twisted frame of the bakkie.
After triaging the injured it was found that the passenger of the bakkie had tragically died on impact. The driver of the bakkie had sustained critical injuries while a passenger that was on the back of the bakkie sustained serious injuries, two taxi commuters were found to have sustained moderate injuries.
The firefighters and the Netcare 911 rescue officer used the Jaws of Life to extricate the injured while medics worked fervently to stabilise them before they transported the injured to nearby hospitals for the specialised care that they required.
