ANC man must pay back unlawful R900 000 salary: DA

SEDIBENG.- Allegations of a serious financial discrepancy emerged against the Sedibeng Regional Secretary of the African National Congress (ANC), Bheki Ngobese last week.

It is said that following his resignation from the Sedibeng District Municipality (SDM) in November 2014 after assuming the ANC position, which is a full time paying job, Ngobese continued to draw a salary from the SDM. The exact package is not known but is believed to be around R900 000 to date.

Speaking on the allegations DA Gauteng Constituency Head in Emfuleni Kingsol Chabalala said that his party will write to ANC Gauteng Chairperson Paul Mashatile and ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe to demand an explanation for why an ANC official receives salaries from both the party and the SDM. “Mr Ngobese’s second salary is illegal, and clearly shows how the ANC in Gauteng abuses state resources to enrich its party members. <

“The only way to resolve this is to force Mr Ngobese to immediately pay back the R900 000. The DA will continue to pursue this matter at municipal and provincial level, and will not hesitate to lay criminal charges against Mr Ngobese if he refuses to pay back the money,” Chabalala said.

Meanwhile, when requested to comment on the matter ANC Sedibeng Spokesperson Themba Ndaba said that this is a matter between employer and employee.“We have been inundated with queries regarding the salary received by regional secretary, Cde Bheki Ngobese during his period of employment at the Sedibeng District Municipality.

“While the ANC is concerned about this issue, it must be noted that this is a matter between the employer (Sedibeng District Municipality) and the employee (Cde Bheki). The ANC will investigate this matter and will await a report on an amicable solution between the employer and the employee in this regard,” he said. At the time of going to print  Sedibeng Ster had sent an enquiry to SDM Spokesperson Banzi Majola on the matter, however when contacted, his phone remained unanswered.
