SAMWU march not about Zuma

SAMWU promised to bring the municipality to a standstill should Kekana not respond to the memorandum in seven days.

VANDERBIJLPARK. – Members of the South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) today marched from the Licensing Department in Vanderbijlpark to the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM)  premises to handover a memorandum.

The march was supported by the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU)

The  marchers were escorted by police and traffic officers. The memorandum was received by ELM’s Acting Municipal Manager Collin Kekana. SAMWU promised to bring the municipality to a standstill should Kekana not respond  to the memorandum in seven days.

Some of the demands listed are that ELM do away with the MDB attorneys who have been contracted to collect outstanding debt from residents and that ELM stop with smart meter installations. SAMWU also demnads that proper service delivery be provided for all those residing in Emfuleni.

“No one can prevent  the workers from practicing their rights,” says Ndwandwe, COSATU cluster secretary adding that all those who are corrupt and hindering progress in the ELM should be fired.
