Self-proclaimed leaders holding back Boiketlong development

Dan Mofokeng, a resident, said there’s no progress irrespective of the construction projects in place. To date, people were shifted and relocated from the clay soil area.

SEBOKENG. – Kabila Mgangane from the offices of Human Settlements Department said that individual self-proclaimed leaders are holding back development during a meeting at Boiketlong recently.

Speaking to the communty Mgangane said that no one should disrupt or obstruct the initiatives of the government and that the Boiketlong Community Development Forum through the mandate from the ward councillor are the legitimate people to call public meetings.
He said that development, empowerment and employment have to take its course. The bulk sewer system is in process in the squatter camp. Former Gauteng MEC for human settlements, Paul Mashatile, former Emfuleni MMC for housing Sello Pitso, and Lesiba from provincial housing conducted the sod turning. They were joined by main constructors, Inkanyeli Group and Set-Square in Boiketlong on May 6, 2016.
“The sewer and water pipes are to be installed into stands. About 150 unemployed youth would be taken for training,” he said. Mgangane said the budget for Boiketlong has been released. I am worried about the leaders holding back the progress. Let’s have leaders who are able to speak the progressive language,” he said.
The forum had to update the residents on every development. Mgangane said it is not the responsibility of the ward councillor to build RDP houses.During the meeting some of the concerned residents refused to believe the story of Mgangane.
Dan Mofokeng, a resident, said there’s no progress irrespective of the construction projects in place. To date, people were shifted and relocated from the clay soil area.
