There will be serious trouble with land invasions: ELM’s Moshoadiba

“We want the municipality to explain what is happening as for years we have been told that this land is for development purposes but now we have new neighbours. When we owe the municipality they do not hesitate to hand us over to lawyers that pester us but they just turn a blind eye on these ‘newcomers.’ Where are they going to get services?” community members wanted to know.

SEBOKENG. – There will soon be serious trouble for people that are selling and buying land in Emfuleni. This was revealed by Jan Moshoadiba, Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) Human Settlements MMC during a Ward 36 community meeting at the Mohaladitoe Secondary School in Zone 10 last week. Moshoadiba revealed that invading vacant land was illegal.

“We are warning people that there will be serious consequences as some of the land that these people are invading is privately owned,” Moshoadiba said. The meeting was held following concerns from members of the community in Ward 36 after seeing people invading land in the area, particularly in Waterdale and Zone 10.

Ward 36 is made up of areas around Boiketlong, Zone 10 (1, 2 and 3) and includes New Village. “We are really concerned as we do not know what is happening. Some of us just saw people next to our houses with measuring tapes and spades and when we asked what was happening they told us that they are our new neighbours.

Moshoadiba promised that his office is on top of the situation, adding that construction of houses will begin soon in Boiketlong and New Village and people who have applied for the houses and are on their database will be provided with them.
