Sedibeng TVET students March against Femicide

VEREENIGING. – The recent brutal killings of women in South Africa should not go unpunished. This sentiment was shared by hundreds of Sedibeng TVET College students as they marched the streets of Vereeniging last week.

The march, which started at General Smuts High, was led by students who said enough is enough with the killings of women in the Vaal and the rest of the country.
The Emfuleni Traffic Department and SAPS were also present to ensure that the march was peaceful.
Speaking for the Student Representative Council (SRC), the president, Annie Ramokhoase says, “The unjust killings that are currently on the rise continue to haunt us as the SRC, noting that a majority of these kidnappings and cruel killings are targeted at our female students who have now become prey to cruel men. We continue to live in fear. These monsters will kill or rape our students.”
Ramokhoase said these words while handing over a memorandum at the Vereeniging SAPS. She added that the institution itself, had to strengthen security measures in terms of access and exit of non-students at campuses.
Accepting the memorandum, Lieutenant Colonel Rampou Matshaneng from Vereeniging SAPS stated that the police would work with the community to maintain law and order and, most importantly, ensure that the perpetrators of the brutal crimes committed against women are brought to book.
The march ended with a candlelight ceremony in honour of all the women who had lost their lives in this year. A moment of silence was also held in their memory.
