Vereeniging Old Boys FC builds them young

VOB FC is one of the teams that are challenging for the Super League tittle as they are sitting at the top of the log. Last season VOB FC campaigned in the Safa Sedibeng SAB League but the family decided to sell the club’s status to start at a lower division.

ROSHNEE.- Vereeniging Old Boys (VOB) FC is one of the oldest football clubs in the history of Sedibeng football (Vaal Triangle). This Roshnee-based football club, which campaigns in the Emfuleni Local Football Association’s (ELFA’s) Vaal Milling Super League, is owned by the Cassim family. Some of the notable names who have played or were once associated with the club is former SA U/20 national team coach, Mac Chenia.

VOB FC is one of the teams that are challenging for the Super League tittle as they are sitting at the top of the log. Last season VOB FC campaigned in the Safa Sedibeng SAB League but the family decided to sell the club’s status to start at a lower division.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, VOB Head Coach, Shady Cassim said they decided to sell the club status and start afresh because they wanted to build a solid foundation. Cassim said that their vision is to start their development teams from the young age of u/10 upwards for the Roshnee community. The club has already started with the u/10 programme.
“When we sold the club’s SAB League status we wanted to focus on development because this is lacking in our area. We want to have a solid foundation to identify these youngsters at a young age which is something unknown here in Roshnee. We will achieve this with the help of the Roshnee community and parents,” said Cassim. As things stand it seems as if VOB FC will be back to the SAB League if their current performance is anything to go by.
