Khume Ramulifho MPL – DA Gauteng Shadow MEC for Education, writes:
The DA extends its condolences to the family and the school community of a teenage boy (14) who was allegedly shot by his father outside an Ennerdale school, South of Johannesburg last night.
According to media reports the father dropped his son off at school for evening classes and fell asleep while waiting for the classes to end.
The boy then knocked on the window, scaring his father who took out his firearm and allegedly shot his son. The boy died en route to hospital.
The DA is calling on the Gauteng Department of Education to provide trauma counselling to the learners, teachers as well as the family and friends of the deceased boy.
Crime in South Africa has reached crisis levels. As such, incidents like this are becoming the norm as many people in our country do not feel safe in the homes, places of work and their communities. It is clear that we need to restore order in South Africa and ensure that the SAPS are a viable solution to crime.
