VEREENIGING. – An elderly couple was found dead in their car in the veld near Dlomo Dam last Tuesday.
A passerby spotted a car parked in the open veld near Dlomo Dam and Police were immediately made aware, and they rushed to the scene.
The couple were both found in the front seat with the male on the driver’s side.
The cause of death is thought to be suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Simon Mofokatsane said a hose had been connected between the exhaust pipe and a rear window and that the engine had evidently been allowed to run until the couple suffocated. Police said the couple had not yet been identified although they were frequently seen at a nearby shopping complex. Both were aged over 60.
Police have opened an inquest docket.
