Tractor driver killed in freak accident

It is alleged that Mokhatla was driving a grass-cutting tractor when its tyre burst. As a result of pressure, the tyre hit the left mudguard causing fatal injuries to Mokhatla. He was declared dead on the scene.

VANDERBIJLPARK. – A tractor driver, Fanie Mokhatla (58), tragically died in a freak accident at the Caravan Park Recreation Facility in Vanderbijlpark last week.

It is alleged that Mokhatla was driving a grass-cutting tractor when its tyre burst. As a result of pressure, the tyre hit the left mudguard causing fatal injuries to Mokhatla. He was declared dead on the scene.

Wandisile Kunene, spokesperson of the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM), said that Mokhatla was an employee of Bohloko TM General Trading, a company that is contracted to ELM to cut grass at the park. Kunene said ELM Municipal Manager (MM) Oupa Nkoane sent his deepest condolences to the family of the deceased.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Simon Mofokatsane said an inquest has been opened. Mofokatsane adds that further investigations are being conducted with the assistance of the Labour Department and ELM to determine the cause of the accident and loss of life.
