SEBOKENG.- The sewage problem in the area is so serious that some residents are thinking of digging pit toilets in their yards though they have proper lavatories.
The residents from Polokong near Sebokeng said that during campaigns ahead of the recent national elections, they were visited and promised by Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) Executive Mayor, Gift Moerane that the sewage problems would be solved but that this has not been the case.
Now, however, they are told that they have to continue using blocked toilets.
One resident,Elizabeth Mtambo is even thinking of selling her house because she can not live in it due to the sewage problem.
” The best solution is to erect pit toilets in our yards as the municipality does not care.”
Moerane has confirmed to have visited the residents and arranged with Metsi-a-Lekoa (ELM’s water utility) and the Ward Councillor to give the matter attention.
