SEDIBENG.- The South African Communist Party (SACP) Vaal District has come out and said that it appreciates the steps taken by Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) to embark on the process to rename street, roads and buildings in the area.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster SACP Vaal District Secretary, Thembinkosi Pulu said that as the SACP they are happy and therefore call on all the people of Vaal to participate in this process.
Pulu said that the SACP Vaal District has agreed to forward the following submissions:
1.Frikkie Meyer Boulevard up to four-way stop (Potch taxi rank in Sebokeng) in Vanderbijlpark should be named Elizabeth Letanta Freedom Route.
2.Beaconsfield Avenue in Vereeniging up to Boy Louw till Sebokeng four-way stop (Potch taxi rank in Sebokeng) to be named after former Mayor of Emfuleni Local Municipality Sebei Motshoeneng.
3.Houtkop Road to be named after one of the ‘unsung heroines’ of the Sharpeville Six, the late Theressa Ramashamola.
4.Voortrekker in Vereeniging to be named after Docky Matlala.
5.Andries Potgiter road from where it starts via VUT till Steel Park, phase four/ Mahareng Secondary School stop sign to be named after struggle icon, Petrus Tom from Sharpeville.
6.Small Farm link road to Evaton to be named after Duma Nokwe.
7.Lakeside to be named Tutu Molefe.
8.Zone 13 in Sebokeng to named Fihli Mbongo
9.Arcon Park, Falcon Ridge and Waldrift to named Alinah Rantsolase Extensions (1-3).
10.Union road in Vereeniging to named after Ernest Sotsu.
“We will therefore embark on the process of consultation with all the stakeholders in this regard and also the families of the deceased, however we call on all members of the public to participate during the public hearing process,” Pulu said.
