SEDIBENG.- Safa Sedibeng SAB League team – Blue Lions FC is one foot in the ABC Motsepe League after they won two of their games at Regional Promotion Play-offs that took place at the Nike Centre in Soweto over the weekend.
The team beat Monville FC and Mamelodi All Stars 1-0 respectively in their first and second games of the play-offs. As things stand, Lions need a draw when they play against Eldorado Spurs FC and Luso Africa FC in their last two games of the play-offs which are scheduled to take place at the same venue this Saturday.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Safa Sedibeng SAB League coordinator Mandla Dipanyekga was confident that Lions will make Sedibeng proud come Saturday. He said that the team needs only a draw to campaign in the ABC Motsepe League next season
Blue Lions FC were crowned the Safa Sedibeng 2018/2019 overall winners after they beat NWU Vaal FC 5-4 (aggregate) in the mini play-offs that took place at NWU Vaal and Isak Steyl Stadium last week to determine the team that will represent Sedibeng at the Safa Regional Promotion Play-offs.
“I must say it is not yet over but the two wins gave Blue Lions FC an advantage and I don’t see them losing the two games they will be playing come Saturday. It was an encouraging performance and I have no doubt that they stand I good chance to gain promotion to the ABC Motsepe League in the new season.
“This is good news for the region taking into consideration that it has been a while since we produced a ABC Motsepe League team,” he told Sedibeng Ster Sport.
It should be noted that Blue Lions FC are originally from Ekurhuleni and there is fear among the local soccer fans that if they gain promotion to ABC Motsepe League – they might relocate.
However, Dipanyekga assured Sedibeng Ster Sport that Blue Lions won’t leave this region if they gain promotion to ABC Motsepe League. Blue Lions FC played their Safa Sedibeng SAB League matches at Isak Steyl Stadium in Vanderbijlpark.
