Charity Shop brings hope to patients facing life-limiting illnesses
Hospice Vaal Charity Shop has officially opened, offering affordable preloved goods while raising vital funds for Wide Horizon Hospice.
The Hospice Vaal Charity Shop officially opened its doors at Golf Park Shopping Centre on October 31, drawing a warm turnout from community members who came to welcome the new venture.
Wide Horizon Hospice CEO Tersia Burger marked the occasion by untying the ribbon before addressing the crowd. Father Reggie then blessed the building, asking for blessings on the shop and on all who walk through its doors.
Burger said the shop would play a vital role in the hospice’s work.
“This will be a place that enables us to do the work that we have to do; it’s such an important source of income,” she said. She also thanked everyone who attended for their support.

The shop is more than a place to find a bargain. Every item sold helps Wide Horizon care for patients grappling with life-limiting illnesses, many of whom cannot afford to pay for their care. The money raised goes towards the medication, meals and nursing care that keep patients comfortable and treated with dignity, and supports their families through some of the most difficult days of their lives.
The shop has also created employment for people in the area, giving jobs to the unemployed while strengthening the community it serves.Shoppers who supported the shop during its time in Henley-on-Klip were among those who came to the opening. They said they were excited about the new location, with several pointing out how convenient it is at Golf Park Shopping Centre.
The shop opens with a fresh new look and a wide range of preloved clothing, books, furniture, homeware, toys and bric-a-brac at affordable prices.
