Murdered police officer to be laid to rest over the weekend

Vaal-Triangle. – Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Lungelo Dlamini says that the burial of a De-Deur Constable who was fatally wounded last week will take place over the weekend in his hometown, Limpopo.

The officer was stabbed and killed l while he and his colleagues were in pursuit of suspected drug dealers. Dlamini says, “Two suspected people were spotted and they ran into a passage path. Three members followed them and the suspects ran into different directions.

“One member followed one suspect and they ended up at a shack. During a confrontation, the member was fatally stabbed and the suspect took his service pistol. Two other members who were following behind heard a shot being fired and immediately saw a suspect carrying a firearm. They fired a shot and the suspect ran away. He jumped several houses until he fell.”

Dlamini said that it was then established that he had a bullet wound on his upper stomach. A knife was found in his possession. It was established the suspect hid the officer’s firearm in a toilet and the firearm was found.

The suspect has since appeared in the Vereeniging Magistrate court where the matter was postponed for further investigation. “The suspect will appear again on September 09,” Dlamini concludes.
