VANDERBIJLPARK. – Metsi-A-Lekoa employees discovered a female’s body, blocking a sewerage pipe in Vanderbijlpark last Wednesday.
The employees alerted Police after responding to the complaints lodged by residents about a blocked sewerage pipe in the area.
Before the police were alerted, the employees unsealed the lid of the concrete manhole to the blocked pipe. This was behind Tennessean Street in CW6, in an open field, a few metres away from the Golden Highway.
The Vaal Rand SAPS’ Water Wing was assigned to remove the corpse.
It was discovered that the body was that of a woman between the age of 25 to 30 years.
According to the condition of the corpse, it was alleged that it had been inside the manhole for no less than five days. Forensic investigations revealed that the body was apparently lowered into the pipe head-down. Due to contamination, apparently caused by chlorine acid, the corpse had turned white.
Persons at the scene said the young woman’s legs were bound together with a wire while another wire could be seen hanging around her neck.
The body was still dressed when found, except for parts of the clothes that have already been eaten away by the acid. Police spokesperson, Sergeant Thembeka Koago said the deceased was wearing blue jeans and two tops, one black with yellowish stripes and the other was navy with a colour of pink. Its alleged that she might have been murdered elsewhere and dumped inside the drain.
Anyone with information that could assist police may contact the Vanderbijlpark Police Station on (016) 910-9000. At the time of going to press, the deceased had not been identified and investigations continue.
