Grade 10 pupil dies after stabbing by fellow pupil

The deceased tried to run away after he had been stabbed but fell and died next to the Staff room on the school premises.

EVATON. – The Gauteng MEC for Education Panyaza Lesufi has expressed serious concern and shock following the death of a 17-year-old grade 10 learner at Tokelo Secondary School in Evaton yesterday.

It is said that the pupil was killed by a fellow grade 9 learner (14) after they fought over a cellphone. The deceased was stabbed in the chest.

The deceased tried to run away after he had been stabbed but fell and died next to the Staff room on the school premises.

Eye witnesses reported that following the incident, the culprit tried to flee the scene but was apprehended by fellow learners.

The Department of Education has since assigned officials from the psycho social unit to render counselling services to all learners and teachers who were affected by the incident.

Police are investigating a murder case.
