NYDA donates wheelchair to Mita
BOIPATONG. - The National Youth Development Agencies (NYDA) in collaboration with the Sedibeng District Municipality (SDM) donated an electronic wheelchair to Mita Molete.
30-year-old Molete. , a survivor of the Boipatong massacre has been using a manual wheelchair where she had to use both hands to move about and “thanks to the new one,” she said, “I simply press the lever gear for control.”
Molete. , who is normally shy, could not hold back her excitement, saying her life will change for the better. “Now that I have an electronic wheelchair, I can say goodbye to the bumpy, rocky roads I normally have to deal with.”
Molete. gave thanks to NYDA and SDM. “I would like to also thank the Gauteng MEC for Safety, Faith Mazibuko, for ensuring my dream to have an electronic wheelchair became a reality.”
The donation was made at her home last week and according to Mike Phokela, Branch Manager NYDA Sedibeng, Molete. has been appointed as the receptionist at the Mafatsane Thusong branch of the NYDA offices.
Phokela said the wheelchair was donated by Wheelchairs on the Run. SDM MMC for Social Services, Zaza Raikane,
said it has been her wish to see Molete. ’s life improve. “We felt that it was too much for Mita to continuously use both hands to move the wheelchair about.”
Molete. ’s family was relieved to see that she can function with less difficulty. Florence Molete. e (70), Mita’s granny, said she is happy that their prayers have finally been answered, “The fact that Mita also got a job is a tremendous relief. However, I will always assist her on other tasks at home,” she concluded.
