SHARPEVILLE. – The Police in Sharpeville showed their commitment to the well-being of the community when they carried out a ‘Second-hand goods operation’ in conjunction with other police stations in the Sedibeng District including the Department of Home Affairs.
The actions follow complaints from members of the Sharpeville community who alleged that their goods are being sold to scrap yards by criminals who break into their homes.
Police spokesperson Constable Busisiwe Sango says, “The purpose of the operation was to close all illegal scrapyards in the vicinity.”
Sango said that eight scrap yards found to be illegal were shut down. “Police seized metals including copper and stolen school desks. All the goods seized weighed 640 kg.”
As the police, we would like to urge business owners and the community at large not to buy stolen goods and report any suspected stolen goods to the police.” Sango concluded.
