This comes after two Sergeants and two Constables were seen in a video footage, that has been doing rounds on social media, dragging and assaulting a female civilian at the station.
Apparently, the woman in the company of her fiancé, were at the police station to open a charge when she was assaulted. The incident happened on their arrival at the station over the weekend.
Other officers who cannot be identified are heard instructing one of their own to hit the victim after she apparently assaulted a police officer.
The officers are further heard in the video telling the victim that she is brave to fight the police.
At the time, she was being dragged on the floor of the police station.
The woman tried to beg for mercy, but the policemen continued to assault her while the other officers and community members were watching. Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko, confirmed on a local radio station that the officers have been suspended after the video reached the office of Mawela.
“General Mawela has instructed Sedibeng Cluster Commissioner, General Zodwa Molefe, to serve the four culprits with a letter of suspension pending further investigations.”
Molefe said that her office will compile a report and send it to General Mawela’s office so that they can take the matter further. To view the video go to Sedibeng Ster’s Facebook page.
