A resident from Arcon Park says from Saturday, 20 June she reported that the main sewage line has been blocked and is overflowing in the street and is causing a backup into our homes and put their health at risk.

The resident said she complained about the problem and on Saturday and on Sunday the Metsi a Lekoa contact centre advised her that the call reference number system is not working and she cannot be given a call reference number but someone will come to assist her.
“When I called to follow up on Sunday we were told that the call out guys have exceeded their overtime quota for the weekend and need to call back on Monday during office hours,” the resident known to Sedibeng Ster said.

“Monday we called and I was told that the truck is broken and needs to be fixed so still there is no resolution to my problem. On Thursday I was finally told the truth that there are no resources as service provider contract ended in April and they do not have a new contractor as yet. This is very saddening as we were also told about other areas experiencing same problems as us in Arcon Park, Vereeniging. Till date there has been no solution offered to us and we just have to deal with the unhygienic situation of our toilets not flushing, over flow into our yards and our toilets smelling like pit toilets.”
“We feel this is not fair as we pay our rates and taxes and the lack of funds from the municipality should not be out problem or affect us.”
“We live with children and with the Corona pandemic we don’t want to be more compromised even in our own homes.”
