Scammers posing as police ask victims of hijackings for cash for the recovery of their cars
Police spokesperson Sergeant Gertrude Makhale says, “The SAPS will never make you pay for your vehicle, we are here to serve and protect our community, it does not matter where your car was stolen around the country, SAPS will never make you pay for your car.”

VANDERBIJLPAR. -The police in Vanderbijlpark have issued a warning to members of the community about scammers who call people who had their vehicles stolen or hijacked and ask them to deposit money for the vehicle to be released.
This follows complaints from members of the community who say they were called by scammers claiming to be officers working for the unit where the vehicle was recovered.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Gertrude Makhale says, “The SAPS will never make you pay for your vehicle, we are here to serve and protect our community, it does not matter where your car was stolen around the country, SAPS will never make you pay for your car.”
Makhale urges victims of stolen or hijacked vehicles to make sure they know who their investigating office is. “Contact your Investigating Officer if you have any questions. If you have doubts, call the SAPS fraud line or the Independent Police Investigative Directorate hotline on 0800 111969.”
The community is urged to report crime or suspicious activities to their nearest police station or to Crime Stop number 08600 10111 or by using the MySAPS App that can be downloaded on any smartphone.
