Reaching for the stars

VANDERBIJLPARK. - Used to scaling heights on the sports field, local sports star Edric Wenhold achieved another milestone by being the first from his group (Kairos Youth) to be awarded the Gold Award as part of The President’s Award Programme.

This international recognised programme for 14 to 24 year olds, equips youth to succeed in life and work. Each participant is uniquely challenged in order to grow in virtuous character traits, discover his/her purpose, and through participation in community service activities, determine their future contribution to build a better future for the communities in which they reside.
Working towards his Gold Award, Edric did in excess of 220 hours of community service, improve existing and build new skills in areas such as abseiling, hunting and art and excelled in athletics. His plans are to continue to serve as co-leader of Kairos Youth and join the Global Award Alumni Network.
* Kairos Youth operates from Vanderbijlpark and consist of a group of high school students from across South Africa who are working together towards their respective Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards. The President’s Award Programme, with Archbishop Desmond Tutu as its patron, provides a well-structured youth empowerment framework.
This programme is overseen by The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation not only in South African, but in over 130 countries globally, with over a million active participants (of which more than 300 000 is based on the African continent).
